Asia Pacific College is very committed in strengthening its three pillars, namely Integrity, Industry, and Innovation. To combat the act of plagiarism and uphold the virtue of integrity, a forum titled “Integrity in Critical Writing” was held at the school auditorium last August 28, 2019.
Discipline Office Head Raymart J. Cabiten spearheaded the event alongside the school’s English Department, Teatré Phileo, and the APC Speaks.
The said forum raised awareness on the effects and consequences of plagiarism. Guest speaker Joycel Vincent V. Dabalos, a college professor from Ateneo de Manila University, shared his insights. He spoke about research, critical writing, reasons behind a student’s disinterest in writing, types of plagiarism, and many more.
“If you don’t own it, don’t take it,” Dabalos said as the forum ended. He emphasized the importance of respecting intellectual property. As future professionals of the industry, this is a lesson that one should take to heart.
Cabiten said, “In our society, we need to identify our own uniqueness.” He encouraged students to value their work, maximize their skills, and become confident enough to recognize their own ideas.
